Kinesiotape for Sports Injuries

Sunday, September 30th, 2012

Looking for the most cutting edge solution?  Try kinesiotape for sports injuries.  If you have ever wondered what all the funny colored tape on the back of athletes is for now is the time to find out? It is a method of taping that started in Japan. The tape is specially formulated to stretch with your muscles and act as extra layers of muscle to protect those that are injured.  It also works to lift the skin off of the injured area and let more circulation happen to the injured muscle underneath.

You can use kinesiotape for many injuries including wrist and ankle sprains as well as helping to support the neck after whiplash. In my chiropractic office we use it regularly when someone gets a little banged up.  I religiously use it myself.   I wrapped my wrist after falling off a surf board over my Christmas vacation.  Before I taped it, just putting weight on my hand was painful. (Pretty inconvenient when you are a chiropractor.)  My wrist pain was immediately relieved and my injury healed quickly. I was able to work with minimal pain.  Talk about a god-send.

I have a lot of experience with kinesiotape because my patients are all so athletic. I am also RockTape certified which is a certification from one of the companies that makes the tape.  I was also the demonstration model as a chiropractic student 15 years ago when this tape first came out and they made instructional videos for doctors.  I walked around my first term of school looking like a mummy!  If you have questions about how it can help you, please call me.  I will be happy to answer any questions that you have.

Eliminating Neck Pain with Chiropractic Adjustments

Tuesday, September 25th, 2012

Patients commonly call our office about  eliminating neck pain with chiropractic adjustments.  Did you know that simple safe chiropractic adjustments to your neck might help your neck feel more flexible, less tense and less stiff and sore? When your spinal bones don’t move in concert with one another, the nerves become irritated and inflamed and muscle tension results. All of those knots in your neck and shoulders?? Often times they can be relieved by chiropractic care. Call our Plymouth office today to see if chiropractic is the right choice for you.

If you are wondering about chiropractic’s safety record, we’ve bee adjusting spines for about 120 years.  Chiropractors pay some of the least expensive malpractice rates of all physicians due to their safety records.

If your neck is not moving properly and feeling all kinked up it is common to develop headaches, feel upper back pain, have poor posture and a host of other ailments.

Are you wondering how necks are commonly injured resulting in pain?  If your first guess is sitting at your computer screen, you are exactly right.  Neck pain doesn’t often come on all at once, it gradually develops when you spend 10 hours a day sitting in front of a screen.  While falls, car accidents and other impacts to the head or neck can also cause problems, long term abuse (or use) of computers is usually the worst culprit.

Chiropractic Treatment for Carpal Tunnel

Saturday, September 15th, 2012

When you are researching your options, don’t forget chiropractic treatment for carpal tunnel.  Do you wonder why adjustments to your spine would help a problem in your wrist?  Most people don’t think of their neck when they think they have carpal tunnel. Believe it or not, many cases of carpal tunnel syndrome have origins in the neck. The nerves that go in to the hands can be impinged at the wrist  but those same nerves also come from the neck and any lack of mobility in the spinal bones can interfere with the transmission of messages down the arms, into the hands. This is especially prevalent when both hands are affected.

Adjusting your spine might not be the only answer however a qualified chiropractor should be able to adjust your elbow and wrist.  She or he should also be able to identify tight muscles in your forearms that impinge the nerves and use very directed muscle work techniques to fatigue out the muscle and cause it to relax.

Chiropractic offers a non-drug, non-surgical, safe and effective approach to improving your health. Chiropractic combined with stretches that are specifically designed to release the tension around the nerves in your arms is often very effective in relieving numbness, tingling and pain in the hands. If you live in the Plymouth area and are wondering if chiropractic can help you, call our office today and ask. We’ll be happy to answer any questions that you have.

Chiropractic and Headaches

Monday, September 10th, 2012

Many people are unaware of how treatment with chiropractic and headaches are linked.  Many headaches start from tension in the neck. If your neck and upper shoulders seem to be the place that you hold most of your stress, it is highly likely you will also have headaches.

Simple and safe chiropractic adjustments to the spinal joints in your neck will help your nerves function more normally and when combined with stretches to your upper back muscles will usually reduce the frequency and intensity of the headaches you are having.   Chiropractic adjustments can also be given to kids that are having issues with headaches.

One of the biggest things you can do at home to help yourself reduce the number of headaches, neck pain and shoulder pain is limit your time on-screen.  Whether it is your computer, laptop, ipad or tv, it stresses your neck out the more you use it.  Following this advice at home along with seeking care from a qualified chiropractor will help you feel better.

When you have an active headache and aren’t able to see us in the office right away, make sure to get an ice pack directly on to your upper neck and base of your skull.

If you or a family member are having problems with headaches, call our Plymouth office today and we will be happy to answer your questions. 763-553-0387
